While the real Pontiac Firebird vehicles used during production of Knight Rider did not have cross-drilled front brake discs, Mike Lane Mods created a set of Metal Drilled Brake Discs to improve the look of our Fanhome 1:8 scale Knight Rider K.I.T.T. partwork build anyway. When the model’s Hubcaps installed, you can barely see the brake discs, but this is one of those mods that you as a builder know is there, even if it is not visible.

Included with this mod kit are:

  • 2x Metal Drilled Brake Discs
  • 3x Black Vinyl Stickers (1 spare)

If necessary, remove the two front wheels from your K.I.T.T. model. The steps listed here can be applied to both the left and right sides of the car.

Slide the Brake Disc assembly off the Knuckle and separate the Brake Disc from the Brake Caliper:

Peel one of the Black Vinyl Stickers from the sheet and stick it onto the outside surface of the Brake Disc, as shown.

These stickers darken the holes behind the Metal Drilled Brake Discs to make them appear more authentic:

Gently place one of the Metal Drilled Brake Discs on top of this Sticker, with the engravings facing up as shown:

Reassemble the Brake Disc assembly and install it back onto the car. Repeat these steps for the other Brake Disc. That’s it!

I know these Metal Drilled Brake Discs are not necessarily ‘screen accurate’, but if K.I.T.T. really went as fast as seen on the television, he would have needed some serious brake cooling. I would imagine those hi-tech brakes would have looked just like this. I appreciate that Mike Lane creates options like this for us builders to choose from!
