Spoiler and Rear Window Panels

Step 1

Carefully remove the two Spoiler Supports from their sprues, keeping track of which one is marked left ‘L’ and right ‘R’.

I recommend using sprue cutters or a sharp hobby knife to cut these parts free:

Fit the Left Rear Spoiler Support to this matching recess on the underside of the Rear Spoiler, orienting it as shown.

There is a small alignment pin on each Support that matches a locating hole on each side:

Likewise, fit the Right Rear Spoiler Support to the other matching recess of the Rear Spoiler, orienting it in the same way.

If you happen to get these two Supports mixed up, don’t worry. Simply fit them and look at the top surfaces of each one – when correctly placed, their tops will angle in towards the center of the Rear Spoiler:

Step 2

Fit the Rear Window Outer Panel onto the Supports, orienting it to the screw holes as shown.

There are large pins on the top of each Support that fit into matching alignment holes of the Panel:

Secure this Panel to the Rear Spoiler, capturing the Supports in between, with two (2) PP screws – one on each side:

Our Rear Spoiler assembly should now look like this:

Step 3

NOTE: The remaining steps in this stage are going to be slightly different than those found in the magazine. When I looked through them before starting the stage, I feel I found a better way to complete them. The first thing we want to do is retrieve your Body assembly and remove the Rear Window assembly we just installed in the previous stage. Place this Window upside down on a soft surface and save the two AM screws to use again later:

Fit the three holes at the tail of the Rear Window over the matching posts of the Rear Window Outer Panel assembly, orienting it as shown:

Step 4

Place the Rear Window Latch into this matching oval recess of the Rear Window Outer Panel, orienting it as shown.

The longer side of this Latch should face the front of the car (arrow below):

Fit the Rear Window Inner Panel to the Outer Panel, aligning the screw holes to the posts as shown.

The Latch should come up through this matching slot of the Outer Panel (circled below):

Step 5

Secure the Inner Panel to the Outer Panel, capturing the Rear Window in between, using six (6) BP screws:

Reattach the Rear Window to the Central Body Structure as before using the same two (2) AM screws we removed earlier:

Step 6

Check that the Rear Window/Spoiler assembly still opens and closes as expected:

I was wondering how they would design the tail of the Rear Window assembly and it worked out quite well! For ease of installation, I only made a slight change to the order of the steps and it helped a lot. I did try it per the instructions first, but found this method so much better.
