Build

Hood Hinges

Step 1

Retrieve your Hood assembly from Stage 1 and set it down on a soft surface. Fit the Right Hinge Base (marked ‘R’) over the matching posts at this right underside of the Hood, then secure it into place with two (2) DM screws.

Make sure these screws are fully tightened as the Hinge Base should not move. This is also your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Step 2

Secure the longer Right Support Rod 1 to this Right Hinge Base with one (1) CM screw.

The notch in this Rod (arrow below) should be facing towards the Hood and closer to the Hinge end, as shown:

Secure the shorter Right Support Rod 2 to the Right Hinge Base with one (1) more CM screw.

Note how the angled end of this Rod (arrow below) is positioned:

Step 3

Secure an Air Spring Cylinder to this tab of the Right Hinge Base with one (1) OP screw, as shown:

Step 4

Secure the eyelet of an Air Spring Piston Rod to the inside of this rounded tab on the Right Chassis Attachment Base (marked ‘R’) with one (1) CM screw, as shown:

Step 5

Slide the end of this Air Spring Piston Rod down inside the Air Spring Cylinder we just installed, orienting the Attachment Base as shown:

Step 6

Rotate the Right Support Rod 2 up and align it to this matching hole of the Attachment Base, then secure it with one (1) CM screw as shown:

In the same way, rotate Right Support Rod 1 up, align it to the matching hole of the Attachment Base, and secure it with one (1) CM screw:

This screw completes the build of the Right Hinge assembly:

Step 7

On the left side of the Hood, secure the other Air Spring Cylinder to this tab of the left side Hood Hinge Base with one (1) SM screw, orienting the part as shown:

Step 8

Secure the eyelet of the second Air Spring Piston Rod to the inside of this rounded tab on the Left Chassis Attachment Base (marked ‘L’) with one (1) CM screw, as shown:

Step 9

Slide the end of this Air Spring Piston Rod down inside the Air Spring Cylinder we just installed, orienting the Attachment Base as shown:

Step 10

Rotate the two Left Hood Hinges (1F and 1G) up and align them to these matching holes of the Attachment Base, then secure them with two (2) CM screws – one for each as shown:

Thoughts

We haven’t worked on the Hood of our K.I.T.T. in a long time – it is nice to prepare it for installation by adding these Hinges! Keep the two unused Frame Connectors (and the LM screws) nearby as we will need them in the next stage.
