“In this issue, the fuel tank and rear floor panel are mounted on the chassis of your model.”

Central Body Structure

NOTE: The Body Structure we receive with this stage will not be needed in these assembly steps. Store it safely until we need it in the next shipment:

Step 1

Retrieve your Tank Filler Pipe and Fuel Tank Cover from the previous stage. Fit the keyed post of the Filler Pipe into the matching recess of this tab of the Tank Cover, as shown:

Secure the Filler Pipe into place with one (1) BP screw:

Step 2

Retrieve your Chassis assembly and Rear Floor Panel from the previous stage. Test-fit the mounting tabs of the Fuel Tank Cover assembly down over the two matching posts on either side of the Circuit Board, as shown.

Note how all of the Chassis wiring should be routed through the large notches at the front and rear of this Tank Cover:

I found it much easier to install this Tank Cover and Rear Floor Panel at the same time. First, I fit the Tank Cover inside the Floor Panel, as shown:

Then, I fit both parts to the Chassis, checked for no pinched wires, and aligned all the mounting points:

Secure the Tank Cover to the Chassis with two (2) GM screws – one on each side.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Step 3

Fit the four tabs of the Floor Panel to these matching posts of the rear Chassis and secure it into place with four (4) GM screws.

There are two at the rear – one on each side:

And, there are two more at the front – one on each side. These screws should also pass through the matching Interior Floor Panel holes, as shown:

Steps 4-5

Retrieve your two Door Switch cables (marked ‘B’), Front Light Wire 1 cable (marked ‘R’), and Pop-Up Headlights Motor and Wiring (marked ‘mot’) that we detached in the previous stage and reconnect them to the matching plugs behind the Firewall.

For the two Door Switch cables, it does not matter which cable connects to which plug:

After this stage was complete, I came back to install the Trunk Carpets upgrade from Mike Lane Mods. The stock part does have a nicely textured surface, but as I already have his Front Carpets installed I wanted to match the trunk lining to the rest of the car:

I love the huge Central Body Structure in this stage – I am sure it is the single largest part of the build! I recommend keeping it stored in the shipping box to protect it until we actually need it in the upcoming stages. As for the Chassis assembly, that should also be stored safely as we will not return to it for quite a long time.
