Interior Floor Panel
The stock Interior Floor Panel does have a nice texture on it to simulate carpeting and is a nice touch:
However, I decided to go a step further and installed the wonderful Front Carpets set from Mike Lane. Full details can be found on those pages:
Once finished with the carpets, I then installed Mike’s matching Heel and Toe Pads. These were a simple peel-and-stick application:
Finally, I added Mike’s matching Floor Mats mod. These were also a simple peel-and-stick application.
Between all three of these floor mods, I feel it adds a whole new level of detail to our K.I.T.T. model!
Step 1
Retrieve your Upper Part of the Transmission Housing assembly and your Driver’s Seatbelt Buckle assembly (marked ‘L’) from the previous stage. Fit the pin and post of this Buckle into the matching holes at this location on the left side of the Housing.
In the previous issue, I used some super glue and Vallejo Model Air 71.028 Sand Yellow acrylic paint to fill the screw holes of these Buckles. The paint did shrink a bit as it dried, so I went ahead and added some more paint into the circular recesses to fill them up again:
I let this paint dry a bit, then fit the Driver’s Seatbelt Buckle assembly to the Upper Part of the Transmission Housing as instructed:
Secure the Buckle into place from the inside with one (1) BP screw.
These screws are driven in at an angle, so use the thinnest screwdriver you can to make things easier:
Step 2
Retrieve your Passenger Seatbelt Buckle assembly (marked ‘R’) from the previous stage. Fit the pin and post of this Buckle into the matching holes at this location on the right side of the Housing, as shown:
Secure the Buckle into place from the inside with one (1) BP screw:
Step 3
Fit the two tabs of the Connecting Plate to the matching holes in the center of the Interior Floor Panel, orienting it as shown.
Note the longer tab of the Connecting Plate should be towards the rear of the Interior Floor Panel:
Secure this Plate into place with two (2) BP screws, as shown:
Step 4
Fit Connecting Piece 1 over the two matching posts at this front center location of the Interior Floor Panel, orienting it as shown:
Secure this Connecting Piece into place with two (2) BP screws:
Step 5
Fit the two shallow posts of Connecting Piece 2 onto these matching posts at the front of the Interior Floor Panel as shown, then secure it into place with two (2) BP screws:
Step 6
Guide the plug of the Lower Console LED (marked ‘V’) from the Transmission Housing assembly through this hole of the Interior Floor Panel:
Fit the Transmission Housing down onto the matching posts of the Interior Floor Panel, as shown.
Gently pull the slack of the LED wiring through the hole as you complete this:
Step 7
Secure the Transmission Housing into place from below with four (4) BP screws:
This is what our completed installation should look like:
I really like how our Interior assembly is looking so far, especially with the carpeting in place:
Thoughts
As we are working on such a large part of our K.I.T.T. build, I cannot help but be pretty excited. We will be working on this interior for many stages to come and I am looking forward to it!
