Dashboard Instrument Panel Wiring
NOTE: I have changed the order of these steps from the magazines to be a bit easier to follow.
Step 1
Retrieve your Chassis from the previous stage. Route the Front Scanner Wires (marked ‘A’) and Headlight Wires (marked ‘m’) around the left side of the Speaker, as shown:
Route the Door Switch Connector (marked ‘B’), Front Light Wires (marked ‘R’), and Pop-Up Headlight Wires (marked ‘MOT’) around the right side of the Speaker, as shown:
On my build, I temporarily removed the Speaker Cover and routed these wires underneath it on either side. I felt this routing was cleaner:
Step 2
Route these five sets of wires forward along the Chassis driveshaft tunnel and begin securing them with an Adhesive Fixing Strip, as shown.
I laid all of my wires flat and then used a piece of electrical tape here as it tends to stick better in these situations:
Affix two more Adhesive Fixing Strips along the Chassis to further secure these wires in place, as shown.
I continued to route my wires straight and flat and used more electrical tape here:
Step 3
Connect the Floor Wires and Lights (44A marked ‘F’) to socket ‘F‘ of the Circuit Board, as shown.
As a quick reminder reference for the rest of this stage, here is the socket layout of our Circuit Board:
Reminder: These plugs have specific polarity and need to be installed correctly – do not force any plugs into their sockets:
Step 4
Connect the Keypad Wire and Lights (44B marked ‘G’) to socket ‘G‘ of the Circuit Board, as shown:
Step 5
Connect the Dashboard Monitor Wire and Lights (44C marked ‘H’) to socket ‘H‘ of the Circuit Board, as shown:
Step 6
Connect the Front Panel Wire and Voice Lights (44D marked ‘O’) to socket ‘O‘ of the Circuit Board, as shown:
Step 7
Connect the Steering Column Wire and Switches (44H marked ‘I’) to socket ‘I‘ of the Circuit Board, as shown:
Step 8
Connect the Dashboard Panel 1 Wire and Lights (44E marked ‘J’) to socket ‘J‘ of the Circuit Board, as shown:
Step 9
Connect the Dashboard Panel 2 Wire and Lights (44F marked ‘L’) to socket ‘L‘ of the Circuit Board, as shown:
Step 10
Connect the Brake Pedal Wire and Switch (44G marked ‘D’) to socket ‘D‘ of the Circuit Board, as shown:
Step 11
Connect the Lower Center Console Wire and Lights (44I marked ‘V’) to socket ‘V‘ of the Circuit Board, as shown:
Thoughts
OK, I think we have now added the remainder of the wiring for our K.I.T.T. model. Over the next stages, we will build the ComLink wristwatch and be able to test everything we have just connected. I am looking forward to it!
