Assembly of the Air Compressor

Step 1

Secure the rounded tab of the Compressor Part 1 to this hole of the Compressor Chamber with one (1) BP screw.

This tab should end up being parallel to the flat surface nearby, as shown.

Fun Fact: On the real A831 Turbine engine, this Compressor Chamber was actually the accessory drive system.

Step 2

Slide the tab of Connector 1 through this slot of the Compressor Part 2 and secure it into place with one (1) BP screw, as shown.

I took this picture before the screw was installed, but it goes into the circled hole:

Step 3

Slide the tab of Connector 2 into this notch of the Compressor Part 3, as shown:

Slide the center hole of your Compressor Part 2 assembly over the tall post of Compressor Part 3, as shown.

Note how these two assemblies are aligned to each other. This process will also capture Connector 2 between the parts:

Step 4

Fit this entire assembly to the front of Compressor Part 1, sliding the post of Compressor Part 3 into the post of Part 1 as shown.

Rotate this assembly so Connector 1 is at the top and the ‘square’ sides of the black boxes are parallel to the Compressor Chamber, as shown:

Secure this assembly into place with one (1) BP screw.

Step 5

Fit Bracket 1 to the front of the Compressor Chamber, aligning its holes to these two parts as shown. Then, secure the long tab of Bracket 1 into place with one (1) BP screw:

Secure the short end of Bracket 1 to the back of Compressor Part 3 with one (1) more BP screw:

Step 6

Secure Bracket 2 to the back of Compressor Part 3 with one (1) BP screw.

Rotate Bracket 2 to be parallel with the sides of the Part 3, as shown:

Step 7

Secure the Compressor Oil Reservoir to the end of Bracket 2 with one (1) BP screw.

The screw is installed into the smaller hole of the Reservoir. Once fitted, the Reservoir should rest at a slight angle, as shown:

Step 8

Fit the pin of the Sleeve Inlet into the hole of Connector 2 and the align the screw post of the Sleeve Inlet to the remaining hole of the Compressor Oil Reservoir.

The long shaft of this Sleeve Inlet should be parallel with the sides of the black Connector Parts, as shown. If needed, rotate the Compressor Oil Reservoir to align these parts:

Secure the Sleeve Inlet to the Compressor Oil Reservoir with one (1) BP screw:

Step 9

Fit the Compressor Oil Reservoir Cap to the open top of the Compressor Oil Reservoir and secure into place with one (1) BP screw:

Step 10

Press the pin of the Ignition into the matching hole at this location on the Compressor Chamber, aligning it as shown.

Fit the Generator to this location on the Compressor Chamber and secure into place with one (1) CP screw:

Step 11

Retrieve your Turbine assembly from the previous stage. Press the larger pin of Connector 3 into this hole of the Air Intake Mount.

When I tried to attach a hose to this Connector 3 in the next stage, it kept falling out. Therefore, I recommend using some super glue here, making sure the small pin faces out as shown:

Step 12

Fit the two pins of the Compressor Chamber assembly into the matching holes at the front underside of the Turbine assembly, as shown:

Secure the Compressor Chamber into place from the inside with two (2) GM screws.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Step 13

Fit the Compressor Chamber Seal to the open end of the Compressor Chamber and secure it into place with three (3) CP screws:

I was not sure if the black screws in this step would be visible later on, so I quickly ‘painted’ their heads with my Metallic Silver Sharpie:

Thoughts


With this stage completed, I believe we are now done building the engine assembly. We will install it into the Chassis in Stage 29!
