STAGE 9

 Return to the BUILD

“In this issue, you will mount the right front suspension, fix the knuckle and prepare the brake disc for the right front wheel. You will also join the front right chassis beam to the front axle.”

Many of the steps in this stage should feel familiar as we will be duplicating previous work, but on the right side of the chassis.

Front Suspension Assembly (4)

Step 1

Retrieve your Front Axle Crossmember assembly from the previous stage and place it on your work surface upside down. Drop the Front Right Suspension Spring down into this right-side circular recess of the Front Axle Crossmember:

Place the Front Right Suspension Lower Control Arm over the Spring as shown, fitting the tabs of the Arm into the matching recess in the Crossmember and in the Mount:

Secure the front of the Control Arm to the Crossmember with one (1) IM screw.

Make sure the hole through the tab of the Control Arm is aligned to the holes in the Crossmember as you drive this screw into place. This is also your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Secure the rear of the Control Arm to the Mount with one (1) JM screw.

The same applies here – make sure the hole through the tab of the Control Arm is aligned to the holes in the Mount as you drive this screw into place:

Step 2

Fit the tab of the Front Right Suspension Lower Joint down through this hole of the Front Right Suspension Lower Control Arm, as shown:

Step 3

Align the two short squared tabs of the Right Steering Knuckle around the tab of the Lower Joint we just installed, align the screw holes through these parts, and secure them together with one (1) KM screw.

This screw should be driven into place from the rear side of the Knuckle away from the Steering Arm, as shown:

Step 4

Fit the rounded tab of the Front Right Shock Absorber Body between the two brackets of the Front Right Suspension Upper Joint as shown, then secure these parts together with one (1) KM screw:

Step 5

Turn your entire Front Axle Crossmember assembly right side up and slide the tab of the Front Right Suspension Upper Joint down through this hole in the Front Right Suspension Upper Control Arm. The tab of the Upper Joint needs to be aligned with the long tabs of the Front Right  Knuckle, as shown:

Secure the Upper Joint to the Knuckle, again from the rear, with one (1) KM screw:

Step 6

Retrieve your Front Right Chassis beam from Stage 5. Align the right side of the Front Axle Crossmember assembly to this location on the bottom of the Front Right Chassis:

Secure the Front Right Suspension Mount to the Front Right Chassis with one (1) KM screw:

Secure the Front Right Reinforcement to the Front Right Chassis with one (1) GM screw:

Step 7

Secure the Crossmember to the Front Right Chassis with two (2) GM screws.

As on the left side, the holes for these screws are located down inside the large hole of the Front Right Suspension Lower Control Arm:

Front Right Brake Disc

Step 8

Fit the two posts of the Brake Caliper into the matching holes of the Brake Caliper Mount/Dust Shield, as shown:

Secure these parts together from the other side with two (2) BP screws:

Step 9

Firmly press the three holes in the flat side of the Brake Disc 02 onto the pins of the ridged face of Brake Disc 01, making sure the center notch in both parts (arrow below) is aligned as shown:

As with our first Brake Disc, I added the Drilled Brake Discs from Mike Lane Mods to this one as well:

Thoughts

Well, now we have an entire Front Chassis! In the next stage, we will turn our focus to the steering system so this Chassis can stay nearby. However, we won’t receive the Front Right Wheel until Stage 16, so keep the two Brake Disc assemblies stored safely until then.
